Debatewise, a leading debating web site, is working with the British Council and the International Debate Education Association to offer young people around the world the chance to have their say on the hugely important climate change conference in Copenhagen in December.
Debatewise have teamed up with the Christian Muslim Forum, following the CMYF, to find Christian and Muslim young people from around the world. The UK places have all been taken up but we hope that people on our mailing list in the following places will want to be involved: Albania, Algeria, Australia, Austria, Burundi, Canada, Denmark, Dubai, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, New Zealand, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Syria, Tanzania, Turkey, UAE, USA and elsewhere.
Debatewise is forming a 1,000 strong panel of young people from around the world. As the conference goes on panel members will be asked to debate the issues that arise, the proposals put forward or the decisions made. Some members will create the debates, others will vote on the arguments. In this way they aim to provide a sense of what young people around the world think of what's happening in Copenhagen.
After the conference is over members of the panel will be divided into their respective countries and asked to debate how they will be impacted by the decisions the conference comes to. This takes what happened there, makes it personal and real and gives it a context no-one else is providing.
'What does Cambodia think about deforestation restrictions? How do they justify their call for
exemption when the rest of the world argues they should suffer for the greater good?'
exemption when the rest of the world argues they should suffer for the greater good?'
Everything will happen online and panel members can participate as much or as little as they like. The only requirement is to vote. In order to create the panel they are looking for one person who cares about the environment from each country to act as a country leader and recruit ten other members. If this is something you're interested in please email David Crane at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and let him know why you're the best Christian or Muslim for the job.
