The Younger Side of Inter Faith
In partnership with the Chicago-based Interfaith Youth Core on 1 October the Forum welcomed us, Nadeem Javaid and Nicola Minford, to our London office (Nadeem and Nicola are with the Archbishop in the picture on the right at the CMYF on 15 October).
With the help of the Christian Muslim Forum, our goal is to establish a strong local hub of sustainable multi-faith action directed at ending deaths due to malaria by May 31, 2010. Known as Faiths Act Fellows, we are part of a team of 28 young people who have been placed in other cities across the US, UK and Canada, each mandated with the same goal. Our arrival here follows seven weeks of intense training, including time in London, Africa and Chicago. During this time we realised how vital it is that faith communities act together to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (link).
Nicola and Nadeem said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to be here, and are looking forward to learn from the vast expertise and experience which the Christian Muslim Forum can offer us in our fight against malaria. In Africa we met with many people from both the Christian and Muslim faiths whose lives have been damaged by the effects of malaria, which is an entirely preventable disease. It has swept across the continent unabated, and we believe that now is a key time when faith communities can work together to bring an end to this.'
We hope to work with young people in London to help mobilize and empower a new multi-faith movement towards positive social action in achieving the MDGs.
If you would like to know more about our work and how you can get involved, please feel free to send an email to Nadeem.
